About

Evelyn Martinez Aguilera is a first-generation college student, born in Guanajuato, Mexico and raised in the suburbs of Chicago. In May of 2021, she graduated summa cum laude from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in political Science and a minor in Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS). During her undergraduate studies, she had the opportunity to intern for the Children’s Legal Center, a non-profit organization offering free immigration services, where she enjoyed her time as a translator and interpreter. As an M.A. student in LALS at UIC, she hopes to explore a more in-depth study of the process of transnational migration and how notions of state sovereignty will be influenced by the eminent threat of climate change.
